- You're beautiful - in the way that beautiful used to actually mean something
- —Dawson
Kate Douglas is a guest character in Season 3 of Dawson's Creek, portrayed by Alexandra Breckenridge.
Story[]
In the Spring of 2000, Kate's boyfriend, Dave, breaks up with her as he realised he's gay. To console and distract her, Andie invites Kate to hang out in Capeside for the weekend. Jack is uncomfortable at the notion, given that Kate was his last girlfriend before moving to Capeside and he never told Kate that he's gay. Andie doesn't see Kate reacting negatively at all and tries to reassure Jack. However, Andie doesn't know that Dave came out and when Kate tells them they both freak out, as Jack was about to come out to Kate.
They go to a secret party arranged by Matt Caufield and meet up with Pacey, Dawson, and Joey at the golf course. Kate is introduced to everyone and, being very extroverted in nature, immediately states that she's going through a break-up and that her ex is gay. She and Dawson promptly strike up a flirtation and take a walk together once they're at the party. They banter and have a moment where Kate basically tells Dawson he should kiss her. He leans in but Kate's had too many shots and turns away, getting sick instead.
Deputy Doug finds and breaks up the illegal party, and everyone's put in jail. While there, Jack decides to come clean to Kate who figures it out before he can say anything. Flustered, and still drunk, Kate asks Dawson if he's gay too, thinking it more than a coincidence. Revealing that she and Dawson almost kissed starts a fight between Joey and Dawson. After they're released from jail, Kate and Jack have a heart to heart where she, despite her drunk reaction, assures Jack that she's of course not mad at him and that it doesn't change how she sees him or how much she cares about him.
Relationships[]
Andie and Kate seem to have become good friends while Jack and Kate were dating, and kept in touch after the McPhees relocated to Capeside following the death of Tim. This also means that Kate likely knew Tim and is a connection for Andie and Jack to their late brother and that part of their lives.
