Liz Tigelaar is an American television producer, writer and author. Tigelaar worked as an intern, post-production assistant, script coordinator and writers assistant on Dawson's Creek.
Along with writing partner Holly Henderson, Tigelaar was given the opportunity to write the episode Show Me Love for season 3. At the time, Tigelaar was a writers assistant and wrote for Dawson's Desktop online and the official Dawson's Creek Newsletter. She is also the co-author of two Dawson's Creek Suspense novels and The Secret Files.
Career[]
Following her time on Dawson’s Creek, Tigelaar continued freelance writing until she landed on the writer’s staff for NBC series, American Dreams in 2003. Eventually, Tigelaar began producing series — notably creating the show Life Unexpected for The CW. She continued on shows like Once Upon a Time (2011), Nashville (2012), Revenge (2011), Bate’s Motel (2013), Hulu’s Casual (2015) and Apple TV+ series The Morning Show. Tigelaar’s most recent endeavors include, developing and showrunning the Hulu series' Little Fires Everywhere, reuniting her with Dawson’s Creek cast member, Joshua Jackson, and Tiny Beautiful Things starring Kathryn Hahn.
Liz & Holly's Episode Diary[]
Beginning in January of 2000, Tigelaar and Henderson chronicled their experience writing and producing the episode Show Me Love on the official Dawson's Creek website. The diary entries updated regularly until the episode premiered on May 10th.[1] The following excerpts give insight into the making of the show:
- February 10, 2000
- Today we started "breaking the story." That means we sit in the writer's room and try to come up with ideas based on what Greg (the showrunner) told us he wants. Jeff (producer/writer) is working with us so it's nice to know we're not alone. All the writers have given us the same advice: Don't get too attached to an idea. Everything will change.
- April 11, 2000
- Today we saw Morgan's (Director) cut of the episode. It was pretty exciting to watch since it was the first footage aside from dailies that we had seen.
- I'm realizing that we wrote a pretty complex show! It's gonna take a lot of work. A lot of dialogue has already been cut - some things I pitched putting back in (like some of Andie's story). We'll see what happens.
- Paul [Stupin] is being really cool about letting Holly and I sit in on all the sessions. Usually a freelance writer (which we technically are because we're not staffed as writers on the show) just does the first or second draft and is done. We got to do all the drafts, all the rewrites, travel to Wilmington and sit in post so it's been a valuable learning experience and great opportunity.
Trivia[]
- Tigelaar makes a cameo appearance in Show Me Love as a patron of Katy's Grill in Act 2.
- Tigelaar co-authored the Dawson's Creek novels Lighthouse Legend, Mysterious Boarder and The Secret Files.
- The official Dawson's Creek website and newsletter had a weekly column during the third and fourth seasons titled Ask Liz & Holly and later, Ask Liz, where Liz answered fan questions regarding the show.
